It"s a busy summer season as always between the major diabetes conferences, Father"s Day, summer D-camps, and much more.
So naturally, we have a bunch of great posts to highlight from the past month!
Here, in no particular order, are some of our recent picks from around the Diabetes Online Community (DOC) and beyond:
With the American Diabetes Association"s 76th Scientific Sessions taking place in NOLA early this month, we liked the coverage that famous "ePatient Dave" Dave deBronkart published after attending this big diabetes event for the first time -- particularly his take on the issue of addressing stigma attached to living with D.
A handful of diabetes advocates and patient-led groups joined together to pen an Open Letter to United Healthcare about insulin pump access and choice, following up on the exclusive deal they signed with Medtronic that kicks into gear on July 1.
We were so deeply saddened to learn that one of our own, Kitty Castellini, passed away in June. She was an amazing diabetes advocate who founded Diabetes Living Today, and she will be missed incredibly. Our DOC friends Tom Karlya, Kelly Kunik, Moira McCarthy and Scott Strumello wrote beautiful tributes to her. RIP, Kitty.

Speaking of community, Stephen Shaul wrote an amazing and insightful post on Happy Medium about our Diabetes Community. Totally worth a read.
Doing What We Do is a simple and powerful post by our Australian friend and advocate Renza Scibilia at Diabetogenic, about how we raise our voices for important issues.
Reva over at Type ONEderful had a very scary situation recently that took her to the hospital for blood sugar related woes... and while we"re very sorry to hear that, we couldn"t help but love how she uses bitmojis to tell the story in an entertaining and creative way.
Also worth a read is My Celiac Diagnosis by D-peep Jacquie Wojcik over at A Sweet Life. Technically, this one published on May 31, but it"s more than worthy of being called out here as a don"t-miss post for June.

Happy 8th blogging anniversary to Karen Graffeo over at Bitter-Sweet. We loved reading about those eight things that wouldn"t have happened without being a DOC blogger!
What a fun post by Ryan Fightmaster at Diabetes Daily Grind with a headline that just makes you need to read: "Suprisingly, I Didn"t Know Everything About Diabetes Before Medical School." Love the tidbits he learned after two years of that higher education.
Ever wonder what"s inside a Dexcom CGM transmitter? Scott over at Rollin in the D took on the task of dissecting his transmitter recently, and he"s got photographs of the guts to share!
The cost of staying alive. Yikes! What a title... Thanks for this one go to D-peep Charity Shuster-Gormley over at the Beyond T1 blog.
We also enjoyed reading Being a Diabetes Supply Hoarder by Mindy Bartleson, featured over on the expanding Beyond T1 blog this month as well. We definitely know what it"s like keeping stashes of supplies for diabetes!
Goodbye, Dr. Pepper is another great read by Bigfoot Child Have Diabetes, about bidding farewell to the family"s fave endocrinologist -- even if they were running 20 minutes late, covered in sand and holding melting ice and Diet Dr. Pepper.
Over at The Pumptastic Scot, D-peep Alyssa Faulkner just had what she calls The Best Prom (!), and she shares how diabetes played into that Big Night for her and friends!
Let"s just call this the #PumpHiatus summer for several of us in the DOC (myself included!). One of those taking a pump vacation is our friend Sarah Kaye at Sugabetic, who"s also returned to Multiple Daily Injections (MDI) and has been pleasantly surprised at how that"s playing out for her.

Diab
etes While Black was just started up a month ago by Michelle Ponder, who is not an actual PWD nor a doctor but someone who"s taken care of family living with type 2 and thinks of herself as a CarePartner. Welcome to the DOC, Michelle!
We just have to include a shout-out to our newly-found blog called Not So Juvenile Diabetic by Dawn Serio, a fellow type 1 who"s been blogging for a number of years but we didn"t discover until now. Thanks for being a part of our reader list in the DOC, Dawn!
Wonder what it might be like if we had a type 1 peep at the controls of a multi-billion dollar NASA space ship? We"re thrilled to hear April share her Space Adventures on that front -- way to go on flight control, April!
Got input on any of these posts? Or did any others catch your eye? We"re always seeking recommendations for next month"s roundup, so email us, please.
